MISHAWAKA - Donald E. Steffens, 75, of Steeplechase Drive, Mishawaka, passed away at his home on Oct. 14th. He was born November 5th, 1932, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Edward and Hazel Steffens. On July 28th, 1951, in Nappanee, Indiana, he married Mary Ann Bartholomew, who preceded him in death on July 11th, 2004, after 53 years of a wonderful marriage. Donald was an avid golfer, and target and trap shooter. He loved professional sports, especially the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Cubs and the White Sox. He was a 1950 graduate of Mishawaka High School and retired from Uniroyal of Mishawaka after 38 years of service. He is survived by his two sons, Dr. J.L. Steffens of Santa Clara, CA, and Gordon Steffens of South Bend. Also surviving are five sisters, Hattie Lechlitner of Mishawaka, Jean Murphy of South Bend, Shirley Thornton of Bryan, TX, Janet Allredge of South Bend and Carolyn Slessman of Elkhart.
