SOUTH BEND - Joyce A. Steel, 67, of Woodhill Lane, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Care Center West. Mrs. Steel was employed by the Department of the Navy, Cleveland. She was born March 5, 1927, in Cleveland, and moved to South Bend 26 years ago, from Parma, Ohio.

On Jan. 26, 1952, in Cleveland, as Joyce A. Beckner, she married John E. Steel. He survives with a daughter, Lisa M. Steel of South Bend; her mother, Marie Beckner of Copley, Ohio; and a brother, Gene Beckner of Akron, Ohio. A son, John Alan Steel, died May 1, 1955.

She was a member of Newcomers Club, Christ Child Society, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Holy Family Catholic Church and was on the bicentennial fire hydrant painting committee.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Funeral Home. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Diabetes Association of St. Joseph County or American Heart Association.
