Max E. Steele

Max E. Steele, 89, residing at
Fountainview Place of Mishawaka, Ind., formerly of North Liberty,
Ind., passed away of an apparent heart attack at 11:45 a.m. on
Monday, Sept. 28, at the nursing home. Mr. Steele was the former
Secretary/Treasurer for the former Lonzo Oil Company in North
Liberty. He worked there for many years. Mr. Steele was born on
May 15, 1909, in North Liberty, to the late Alva Cyrus and Maude
(Rensberger) Steele. He had resided most of his life in
North Liberty.
On Dec. 21, 1940, in North Liberty, he
married Elta M. Gentry, who survives. He is also survived
by three daughters, Susan E. Marquez of Monon, Ind., Nancy
Jeanne Brzycki of Longmont, Colo., and Carol Evelyn McLaughlin
of Phoenix, Ariz.; one son, Richard Max Steele of Bellingham,
Wash.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and by one
brother, Robert A. Steele of Mishawaka.
He was a 1927 graduate of North Liberty High
School and a 1931 graduate of DePauw University, where he was a
member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Social Fraternity. Mr. Steele was
a member of the North Liberty United Methodist Church, past
treasurer for many years for the church and a member of the
church choir.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Thursday at the North Liberty United Methodist Church. Rev. Fred
Stayton, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow
at the Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Friends may call from 4
to 8 p.m. today at the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, Ind., and
one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Memorial
contributions may be given to the North Liberty United Methodist
Church, 103 S. Main Street, North Liberty, IN 46554.
