SOUTH BEND - Evelyn "Evie" M. Steele, 90, of Newburgh,
IN, formerly of Miami Street, South Bend, IN, passed away on
Saturday, February 13th, at the Angel River Health and
Rehabilitation Center, Newburgh. She was born on November 29,
1919, in South Bend, to the late Anna (Klotz) and John W.
Whitmyer. On July 3, 1943, in Long Beach, CA, as Evelyn M.
Whitmyer, she married Donald W. Steele, who preceded her in death
on December 1, 2005. Evie was also preceded in death by a sister,
Bernice Seaman. Surviving Evie are a daughter, Susan M. (Joe)
Wells of Newburgh; a grandson, James A. Wells of Carlsbad, CA;
and a granddaughter, Sara M. Wells of Newburgh. Evie was a
stenographer for the Bendix Corporation and was also a
receptionist for Doctors Cox and Buck in South Bend. She was a
devoted and longtime member of the First United Methodist Church
in South Bend. Services for Evie will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday,
February 17th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N.
William Street, South Bend. Rev. Mary Hubbard, pastor of First
United Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Visitation
will be on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until services in the funeral
home. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, following
the services. Memorial contributions may be made to First United
Methodist Church, 333 N. Main St., South Bend, IN 46601; or to
the American
Heart Association , 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674.
