MISHAWAKA - Emma Steele, 89, peacefully passed away on Wednesday,
March 3rd, 2010, with her loving family by her side. Emma was
born on December 12th, 1920, in Offenbach, Germany, to Karl and
Margarethe Schorpp. Emma served in the German Air Force during
World War II. After the war she met a handsome United States Army
Captain who was still stationed in Germany, Robert A. Steele of
North Liberty, IN. Emma and Robert were married in Germany on
March 27th, 1948, and came to the United States to make their
home. Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Robert (1998); and her four siblings, Karl, Wilhelm, Walter and
Wilma, all from Germany. Emma is survived by her two children,
Robert C. Steele of Seattle, WA, and Karen Roose (Robert) of
Mishawaka; and a very special daughter-in-law, Melodie Steele of
Plainfield, IN. She was very proud to be the grandmother of 11
grandchildren, Aaron Steele, Indianapolis, IN, Dr. Amanda Steele,
Iowa City, IA, Sarah Steele of Los Angeles, CA, Adrienne Slates
(William) of Osceola, Kim Egendoerfer Jr., Erica Sapp (Jason),
Adam Egendoerfer, William Egendoerfer and Kristyn Egendoerfer,
all of Mishawaka, Jason Roose of Mishawaka and Kevin Roose
(Carol) of South Bend. Her pride and joy were her six
great-grandchildren, Austin and Alex Slates, Brenna and Gavin
Egendoerfer, Payton and Amzy Roose, as well as her honorary
great-grandchildren, Savannah and Lucas Egendoerfer. She was
anxiously awaiting the birth of her seventh great-grandchild this
summer. Emma most enjoyed being with her family, attending all
the sporting and school events she was able to. She very much
enjoyed watching her daughter sing with Last Call rock band. She
was also a long-standing member of the First United Methodist
Church of Mishawaka. Friends may visit with the family on Monday,
March 8th, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel in Mishawaka at the viewing
from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11
a.m., also in the Bubb Funeral Chapel.
