SOUTH BEND - Violet Staszewski, 88,
of South Brookfield Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 6:42 p.m.
on Friday, March 20, in St. Joseph's Medical Center. She was born
on March 29, 1909, in South Bend and she was a lifelong area
resident. She retired from the St. Mary Convent.
She was married on July 31, 1937, in South
Bend, as Violet Stachowski to John L. Staszewski. He died
on May 3, 1988. She was also preceded in death by a son, Eugene
Staszewski, on Jan. 8, 1996.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia
(Ralph) Szalewski of South Bend; six grandchildren, Shelly Michalski,
Lori Hoffman, John Szalewski, Rob Staszewski and Steve
Staszewski, all of South Bend, and Jim Staszewski of Naperville,
Ill.; and by four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Staszewski was a
member of the Rosary Society of St. Adalbert Church and the
Polish women's Democratic and Civic Club.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday
in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A Rosary
will be said at 4 p.m. on Monday. Services will be held at 10
a.m. on Tuesday in St. Adalbert Catholic Church with burial to
follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made
to the St. Adalbert Church building fund, 2420 W. Huron Street,
South Bend, IN 46619.
