NEW CARLISLE - Eugene J. Staszewski, 76, of New Carlisle,
IN died on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, in Hospice House, South
Bend. He was born on October 14, 1931, to the late John and Mary
(Jasinski) Staszewski in South Bend, IN, and was a
lifelong area resident, residing in New Carlisle for 45 years.
Mr. Staszewski retired in 1992 from South Bend Lathe, after 30
years of employment. On October 15, 1960, he married Bernice M. Michalski
at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church-Terre Coupee in New
Carlisle, IN. He is survived by his wife, Bernice M. Staszewski
of New Carlisle, IN; three sisters, Eleanor E. Choinacky;
Henrietta (Martin) Steinhofer; and Geraldine Rothballer,
all of South Bend, IN; two brothers, Clem (Joan) Staszewski of
Largo, FL; Irvin (Nancy) Staszewski of South Bend, IN; eight
nieces; 16 nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Staszewski was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish-Terre
Coupee in New Carlisle, IN; American Legion Post #284 in South
Bend, IN; and the Crumstown Conservation Club. He was an Army
Veteran of the Korean War. Eugene enjoyed working in his yard and
garden; and loved to cook and read. His family and friends better
knew him as "The Terre Coupee Kid".
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2008, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2008, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church-Terre Coupee in New Carlisle, IN. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in South Bend, IN, where American Legion Post #284 will conduct Military Services. Memorial contributions may be made to: The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, 55756 Tulip Road, New Carlisle, IN 46552; or the charity of the donor's choice.
