SOUTH BEND - Albert R. Starrett, 77, of 32nd Street, died at 12:59 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Hospital after an illness. Mr. Starrett retired in 1976 from Bendix Corp. after 35 years. He was born May 29, 1918, in Wakarusa and was a lifelong area resident.

On Dec. 7, 1963, in South Bend, he married Anna Belle Shumaker. She survives with two sons, Jerry of Mishawaka and Dr. James of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Sue Kline of Fort Wayne; a stepson, Larry Sheaks of Bourbon; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandchild; a sister, Alma Strahla of South Bend; and a stepbrother, Robert Stillson of Ligonier. He was a member of Bendix Old Timers Club, Muskie Fishermen's Club, and United Auto Workers Local 9.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka.
