24, 1919 - Dec. 18, 2009SOUTH BEND - Sophie Stanoy, 90, passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2009, in the Sanctuary at Holy Cross. Sophie was born on January 24, 1919, to the late Thomas and Josephine (Chrusciel) Drukala. On November 30, 1940, she married Martin Stanoy, who passed away May 20, 1997. She is survived by nephew, Steve Stanoy of Aurora, IL; caregivers, Dolores (Ronald) Michalski and Betty (Ray) Haluda; cousins, Sophie Romanowski, Pearl Haluda, all of South Bend; and many other cousins and friends. Sophie was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church where she belonged to the Senior Group. She worked for 37 years at RACO. The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Sanctuary at Holy Cross for the exceptional care given to Sophie. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2009, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, in St. Casimir Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir Catholic Church, 1308 W. Dunham St., South Bend, IN 46619; and to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
