SOUTH BEND - Joe Nolden Staggers Sr., 74, of 232 N. Walton St., died at 6 a.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Mr. Staggers was a former cement finisher and brick mason. He was born May 3, 1920, in Hope, Ark., and lived in South Bend since 1945, coming from Pratt, Kan.

On Oct. 18, 1942, in Hope, he married Birdie Mae McFadden. She died in 1987. He is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Akin and Helene D. Thomas, both of South Bend; three sons, Joe N. Jr., Charles E. and Ronald L., all of South Bend; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Katherine Braxton of South Bend, Katie Craig of Jacksonville, Ark., and Alma Davis of Chicago.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in New Testament Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Clark's Funeral Chapel.
