Bertha Marie Stafford, 84, of Fairington Circle, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5:21 p.m., Thursday, in St. Mary's Community Hospital, South Bend. Mrs. Stafford was a homemaker. She was born on March 21, 1912, in Sommerset, Ky., and had been a resident of South Bend since 1971, coming from Sommerset.

In 1941, in Covington, Ky., as Bertha Marie Cook she married Jess Stafford, who preceded her in death in February of 1962. Surviving Mrs. Stafford are a daughter, Judy Coldiron of South Bend; a granddaughter, Cindy Coldiron of Arlington, Va.; and a grandson, Jeff Coldiron of Knox, Ind.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, in the funeral home.
