Edward J. Stachon, 92, of Salt Lake
City, Utah, formerly of W. Angela Blvd., South Bend, Ind., passed
away on Friday, Sept. 10, at his residence. He was born on Oct.
13, 1906 to Alexander and Zofia (Bogusz) Stachon in
Chicago, Ill., and had lived locally from 1953-1995 after coming
from Gary, Ind. Mr. Stachon was previously employed by the
Pillsbury Flour Company, Chicago, a former field representative
of Oil Dry Corporation, Chicago, and retired as the owner of E
& L Messengers in South Bend.
On June 19, 1937, in Chicago, he married
Lillie Uzumecki, who preceded him in death on May 14,
1995. He was also preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol Ann Pickering of Salt
Lake City; a son, Robert E. Stachon of Norwich, Conn.; two
grandchildren, David Kreifeldt, Jr. and Richard Kreifeldt,
both of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Irene Bambarger of
Aeutaw, Ala., and Ann Radwan of Naperville, Ill.; and by two
brothers, Joseph Stachon of Napa Valley, Calif. and Alex Stachon
of Gilbert, Ariz.
Mr. Stachon was a frequent contributor to
the ''Voice of the People'' column in the South Bend Tribune. He
was a former member of Holy Cross Parish, a member of the Knights
of Columbus Father J.A. Nieuwland General Assembly 4th Degree and
a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Santa Maria Council
#553.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18 in Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 3
to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545
N. Bendix Drive, where a combined parish and Knights of Columbus
Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to: Moreau Seminary, P.O. Box 668,
Notre Dame, IN 46556.
