SOUTH BEND - Helen J. Speybroeck, 86, of Ironwood Road, South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Friday, February 23, in Memorial Hospital. Helen was born December 9, 1920, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Vukasin "Fred" and Mary (Kolundzija) Medich.
On September 15, 1945, in South Bend, she married Joseph Speybroeck, who died on June 6, 2003. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Sophia Mandich, Smilia Krneta and Mary Sudar; and by three brothers, Gajko, Pete and George Medich. Helen is survived by a daughter, Carol (Robert) Handley of Granger; three sons, Joseph (Kathy) Speybroeck Jr. of South Bend, Robert Speybroeck of South Bend and David (Myoung) Speybroeck of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Wendi, William, David, Dustin, Brandon, Jason and Shawn; and by eight great-grandchildren, Ryne, Carson, Domonick and Kali Speybroeck, Jadyn Handley, Holli Emily and Chloe Dobay. Helen was a very loving mother and enjoyed playing bingo with her friends.
She was also a member of Little Flower Catholic Church. Funeral services for Helen will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, in the Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood, South Bend. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Family and friends may visit from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 26, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend.
