Irene H. Spencer

Irene H. Spencer, 89, formerly of 1525 Ontario Road, Niles, Mich., died following an extended illness at 12:55 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 13, in Riveridge Manor, Niles.

She was born on Jan. 15, 1910, in South Bend, Ind., to Stephan and Mary (Szabo) Juhasz, and had lived in this area all her life on the family homestead on Ontario Road. She had continued to grow crops on the family farm and enjoyed caring for her nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Spencer had formerly been employed at the Bendix Corporation.

In 1939,in Bryan, Ohio, she married John L. Spencer, who died on Dec. 23, 1969. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Fabiano, who died on Aug. 30, 1993; and by her brothers, Paul Juhasz, Sr., who died on Aug. 1, 1991, and Ernest and John Juhasz.

Mrs. Spencer is survived by her sisters and brothers, Mary Banifi of South Bend, Elsie Neidlinger of Berrien Springs, Mich., Steve Juhasz of Niles and Andy Juhasz of Encinitas, Calif.; and by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Reverend Canon Marian M. Kencik of Saint Mary Catholic Church, Niles, officiating. Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
