MISHAWAKA - James J. Spainhower, 72,
of East Omer Avenue, passed away after an illness at 3:40 p.m. on
Tuesday, Dec. 15, in his residence. Mr. Spainhower was born on
March 10, 1926, in Petersburg, Ind., as the son of the late James
and Aliene (Cox) Spainhower. He moved to the Michiana area
in 1948 from Petersburg. He was also preceded in death by a
brother, Charles Spainhower.
On March 26, 1967, in Mishawaka, he married
the former Doris Schroder, who survives. He is also
survived by a daughter, Mary (Brian) Presnell of
Mishawaka; five sons, James E. Spainhower of Mishawaka, William
H. Spainhower of Indianapolis, Ind., Jerry W. (Diane) Schroder
of Mishawaka, Roger E. (Michele) Schroder and Robert R. (Nancy)
Schroder, both of South Bend; 12 grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Margaret Daly of
South Bend. Mr. Spainhower was a foreman at Dodge in Mishawaka
for 22 years, retiring in 1987. He was the owner and operator of
Mishawaka Service for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was a World
War II veteran of the United States Marines, from where he
received two Purple Hearts.
Friends my call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday,
Dec. 18, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, in the
funeral home, with Rev. Erv Mize officiating. Burial will follow
in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be
