Howard I. Southworth, Sr., 96, of Luelde Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at his residence. Howard was born on Oct. 5, 1901, to Ralph W. and Cena E. (Cook) South-worth, Sr., in Dowagiac, Mich. His parents preceded him in death. He had lived in the South Bend area since 1920.

On Aug. 14, 1922, in South Bend, he was married to Mary Rozela Shaul, who preceded him in death in 1957. Then, on Nov. 24, 1962, he married Viola M. Mason, who survives. Howard is also survived by a son, Howard I. Southworth, Jr., of Big Rapids, Mich.; three grandchildren; and by a brother, Ralph W. Southworth, Jr., of Lawrence, Mich. Howard retired in 1964 as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office.

Funeral services for Howard I. Southworth, Sr., will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, in the Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, South Bend, with the Rev. Edward Fritz officiating.

Visitation hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, and also from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. time of services at the church on Monday. Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac.
