Leonard P. Sosinski

Leonard P. Sosinski, 79, formerly of Birchwood Avenue, passed
away on Saturday, May 6, at 7:30 a.m. in Hamilton Community and
Healthcare Facility, New Carlisle, Ind.
Leonard was born on January 18, 1927, in South Bend, to
Michael and Cecelia (Laskowski) Sosinski. He was preceded in
death by his parents, and by Harold, his brother.
On July 17, 1948, he married Betty Lou (Kieloch) in St. Hedwig
Catholic Church, South Bend. They were married for 57 years. She
survives along with daughter, Nancy (Terry) Long of Elmhurst, IL;
a son, Gary (Kathy) Sosinski; four grandchildren, Michael
Sosinski of Dayton, Ohio, Melissa Sosinski of Indianapolis, Ind.,
Erin Long of Chicago, IL, and Emily Long of Elmhurst, Ill.
Leonard worked at Studebaker until their closing; he then
retired in 1990 from the University of Notre Dame after 33 years.
Leonard was an avid Notre Dame fan; he volunteered to work in
the press box for home games and he belonged to the University
Club at Notre Dame. He was a past president of the former
Polish-American Civic Club and was a member of the Senior Club at
St. Casmir. He graduated from the former South Bend Catholic High
School in 1945 where he met his sweetheart, Betty. He enjoyed
playing euchre with family and friends. His favorite pastime was
enjoying his grandchildren.
The family would like to give heartfelt thanks and also
express our gratitude towards the doctors, nurses and medical
staffs at the following facilities: Dr. Andrey Seluzhitskiy,
Ralph Inabinit Jr., Hamilton Community and Healthcare Facility, St.
Joseph Hospital and St. Anthony Hospice, Michigan City. They
would like to extend a special thanks to Fr. Bob Stegmyer, CSC,
for all his prayers and visits, and to their family and friends
for their thoughts and prayers.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 8, in ST.
JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a
Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A funeral liturgy will be
celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, in the St. Joseph Funeral
Home. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
