SOUTH BEND - Ralph T. Sorgenfrei, 87, of 19140 Sundale Ave., died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Hospital after an illness. Mr. Sorgenfrei retired from Bendix Corp. as a supervisor. He was born June 8, 1906, in Duluth, Minn., and lived in South Bend since 1930, coming from Duluth.

On May 10, 1930, in Chicago, he married Esther Holzknecht. She died in 1978. On Sept. 29, 1984, in Bremen, he married Catherine Crowder. She survives, with two daughters, Clara Crowder of South Bend and Melissa Myers of Syracuse; and two grandchildren. He was a member of Avalon Grotto, York Rite Masonic Portage Lodge 675, American Legion Post 50, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8972, Bremen.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home, where services will be conducted by Avalon Grotto at 7:30 p.m. followed by services by Masonic York Rite. Memorial contributions may be made to Avalon Grotto.
