SOUTH BEND - Lillian Catherine Solfronk, 96, of South
Bend, formerly of E. Madison, died Saturday afternoon in the
Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Lillian was co-owner with
her late husband Joseph of Solfronk Grocery & Meat Market on
Mishawaka Ave. for 13 years, and retired in 1977 as manager of
the University of Notre Dame public cafeteria. She was born
January 4, 1912, in South Bend, to George and Catherine (Ludvick)
Straka. She married Joseph on February 16, 1932, in Omaha,
Nebraska. He died May 23, 1976. Surviving are two daughters,
Catherine C. (Dale) Donat of Granger and Lillian F. (Buck)
Smith of South Bend; a son, Joseph G. (Annie) of Granger;
nine grandchildren, Georgine Koch, Dale Donat, Salina Freet,
Melinda Groning, Rachelle Smith, Danette Smith, JJ
Solfronk, Katie Solfronk and Johnny Solfronk; 12
great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and a
sister, Mary Reed of Valley Station, KY. A sister, Frances
Straka, and three brothers, Frank, George and John,
preceded her in death.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka, with Rev. Dan Scheidt, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the HICKEY Funeral Homes, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Additional visitation one hour prior to Mass on Wednesday in the church. Memorial donations may be made to the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility or to The Christ Child Society.
