SOUTH BEND - Velma Ruth (Cottrell) Snyder, 100, passed
away on Wednesday. Velma was born on May 27, 1907, to Adelbert
and Margaret (Burt) Cottrell in South Bend, Indiana.
She married Otis J. Snyder on January 20,
1932, in Westville Indiana. She is preceded in death by her
husband, Otis; and a stepdaughter, Rosamond Kanouse; along
with four brothers and five sisters. Survivors include her sons,
Richard (Diana) of Mishawaka, Larry (Diana) of South Bend;
daughter, Helen Marie of Mishawaka; and two grandsons,
Christopher of Temecula CA, and Daniel of South Bend. Velma was
employed by Wilson Brothers Shirt Factory in South Bend and then
became a loyal employee of Uniroyal (Ball-Band) for many years.
She was a faithful member and past president of The Daughters of
the Union Veterans of the Civil War. Velma was also a member of
St. Monica Catholic Church, where she served as an Eucharistic
Minister and belonged to the Daughters of Isabella. She was a
member of the Rosary Sodality at St. Monica's. The family wishes
to thank Fountainview and Cardinal Nursing facilities and Harbor
Lights Hospice for their excellent, compassionate care.
Friends may spend time with the family on
Monday, October 15, from 3 to 7 p.m. in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910
North Main Street, and one hour prior to Mass on Tuesday. A
Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Monday. Mass of Christian burial
will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Monica Catholic Church,
with Father Jeffery Largent officiating. Burial will follow at
Fairview Cemetery. Contributions in her honor may be made to
Harbor Lights Hospice or St. Monica's School.
