Harold L. Snyder, 72, of 30636 Pierce Road, North Liberty, passed away at 10:30 a.m. at his residence after an extended illness. He was a retired mechanic and school bus driver. He was born Dec. 9, 1924, in St. Joseph County to Minnie Nelson and Palmer Snyder.
He was married to Eilene Ruth Freeze on Oct. 31, 1947 at the First Christian Church in Mishawaka. She survives along with 10 children, including six sons; Harold L. Jr. and Joanie Nagy of Bremen; Robert G. and Donna Womack of Granger; William P. and Rebecca Bejma, Stephen S. and Kathryn Kurzhal, and Noel, all of North Liberty and John and Gwen Pastryk of Galien, Mich., and four daughters; Patricia E. Criniti and Frank of Granger, Christine A. Werntz and Michael of Lakeville, Susan M. Baughman and Tim of Fredricksburg, Va. and Rebecca L. Schoelkopf and Jerry of Tenino, Wash. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene of North Liberty; and a sister, Maxine Amor of Lakeville. A sister, Phyllis Hess, preceded him in death.
Mr. Snyder was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the North Liberty American Legion Post 365. He was also a 16-year member of the volunteer fire department, North Liberty Church of Christ, an avid fisherman and former owner of Harold and Gene's Standard Service. He retired from Potato Creek State Park.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the North Liberty Church of Christ and officiated by Pastor Charles Richmond. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the A.M. Manuel Funeral Home. Military graveside services will be conducted and memorial contributions can be made to the St. Joseph, Marshall County Hospice or North Liberty Church of Christ.
