South Bend Tribune 2/15/2007
MISHAWAKA - Clyde was the last of five children of the late Fred and Ida L. (Grove) Snyder of Mishawaka and Granger. He was especially proud of being the oldest living descendent of the Snyder family. He died Monday, February 12, 2007, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.

On February 27, 1933, he married Bertha M. Vervynckt in the home of his sister, Mildred B. (Snyder) Hertel, in Mishawaka. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In 1937 Clyde and Bertha moved to Orange Avenue in Mishawaka with their children, in a house that he had helped his father build in 1925 and never moved away. "Bert" and Clyde would have been married 74 years. He is survived by his wife, Bertha; a daughter, Patricia A. (Robert) Sloan of Mishawaka; a son, Gary L. (Margaret) Snyder of Davenport, FL; and a son, Dean A. Snyder of Mishawaka. Also surviving are three granddaughters, Laura A. (Michael) Hiles of Lafayette, IN, Rebecca A. (Douglas) Overmyer of Montrose, CO, and Deborah A. (Keith) Mosley of Apopka, FL; two grandsons, Brian M. (Kristi) Sloan of Mishawaka and Brent D. Snyder of Portsmouth, VA. Also five great-grandchildren, Brady and Matthew Overmyer, Christopher and Connor Mosley, and Kourtney Brewer; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Maurice and Helen Scheyving, of South Bend. Clyde was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois A. Snyder; three sisters, Hazel Marie, Alice May and Mildred B. Hertel; and a brother, Gary Dale.

Except for second grade in a one-room school in Colorado, Clyde attended Mishawaka schools from 1917-1929, graduating from Mishawaka High School "Class of 1929." Just weeks before graduation he was sent to a new industry at 400 S. Byrkit, "American FDY Equipment Co.," who occupied the former "Amplex Motor Car Co." plant. They needed a part-time draftsman for a couple of weeks. During a 50-year-plus tenure at the same location, Clyde held 11 different job titles in engineering, sales and research while the company name changed three times, eventually becoming "Wheelabrator Corp." He ended his "part-time" career in 1980 as assistant director of research and development, and consultant. He was the author or co- author of several patents, mostly "Improvements in Bag-type Dust Collectors." He was "the boy who stayed."

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 18th, in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday, with Rev. Don Comstock officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
