SOUTH BEND - Mary Gertrude Smith, 81, of Hine Street, died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday in Meridian Nursing Center-Cardinal. Mrs. Smith retired from Louie's Tux Shop. She was born Jan. 20, 1914, in Greenville, Ky., and lived in South Bend since 1974.

On Feb. 5, 1950, in South Bend, she married Alfred Smith. He died in 1982. She is survived by a son, Alfred of South Bend; and two grandchildren. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Alford's Mortuary. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call an hour before services in the funeral home.
