MISHAWAKA - Ernest E. Smith Sr., 99, of Fountainview Place, died at 9:20 a.m. Friday in the nursing home. Mr. Smith retired in 1959 from Studebaker Corp. He was born Sept. 9, 1894, in Royal Center, Ind., and lived in this area since 1923, coming from Logansport.

On June 14, 1919, in Logansport, he married Iva Thompson. She died June 9, 1988. Surviving are a daughter, Dolores Graf of South Bend; two sons, Ernest E. Jr. of Michigan City, and Stanford R. of Chicago; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was an Army veteran of World War I, receiving a Purple Heart, and a 50-year member of Grace United Methodist Church, South Bend.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan St.
