Elizabeth G. Smith, 89, of Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, Ind., formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 12:35 a.m. on Friday, April 4, of natural causes.

Elizabeth retired from Robertson's Department Store in downtown South Bend in 1975.

She was born on Jan. 4, 1908, in South Bend, to Stephen and Barbara (Lorincz) Rebics. On June 25, 1938, in South Bend, as Elizabeth Rebics, she married C. Fred Smith, who preceded her in death on April 4, 1956. She was also preceded in death by her parents; by a sister, Mary M. Rebics; by three brothers, Stephen Rebics, Joseph Rebics and Frank Rebics; and by a nephew, Alex Arch.

She is survived by a sister, Julia R. Arch of South Bend; five nieces, Mary Piller, Margaret Smigielski and Joan Barkley of South Bend, Yolanda Roush of Plymouth and Barbara Smurr of Granger, Ind.; and many great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, South Bend, where a Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. by the St. Ann Society.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady of Hungary Church, with Rev. Anthony Letko officiating. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, South Bend.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the charity of donor's choice.
