Catherine Ann Smith, 80, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2006, in Holy Cross Care & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, IN. Catherine was born April 26, 1926, in South Bend, to the late Frank C. and Martha (Scanlan) Toepp.

She was married on Nov. 25, 1950, in South Bend, to Robert E. Smith. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 2002. She retired from Bendix as an executive secretary from the automotive division.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Ann (Rex) Flickinger of Elkhart, IN, and Elizabeth C. Smith-Catanzarite of South Bend; a son, Mark R. Smith of South Bend; 10 grandchildren, James (Jana) Klosowski, Todd (Lisa) Klosowski, Cheri Flickinger, Corey Flickinger, Codey Flickinger, Maria Catanzarite, Josie Smith, Heather Smith, Chad Flickinger and Curt (Shelly) Flickinger; seven great-grandchildren, Alexandria Klosowski, Leah and Ryan Klosowski, Nicole, Drew, Brock and Ryne Flickinger; two brothers, Dr. Frank (Rosemary) Toepp and Dr. John (Marilyn) Toepp, both of South Bend.

Friends will gather on Thursday, August 3, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 East Edison Road, South Bend, IN. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 4, 2006, at 10 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 North Ironwood, South Bend, IN.

Catherine was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church and was an active volunteer of Little Flowers Food Pantry and the South Bend Right to Life. Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Flower Food Pantry. The family would like to thank Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Holy Cross Care & Rehabilitation, and Dr. Tom Barbour for the care provided to their mother.
