19, 1929 - Dec. 19, 2009MISHAWAKA - Robert L. Smethers, 80, of Mishawaka, died at his home on December 19, 2009. He was born in South Bend on January 19, 1929, to Harley and Emma (Logan) Smethers. Robert retired in 1991 from Precision Piece Parts as a machinist. He was a member of American Legion Post 308. Surviving Robert are his daughter, Nancy (Michael) Michele of Mishawaka; sons, Richard (Verna) Smethers of Osceola and Dennis Smethers of Colorado; seven grandchildren, Michael Jr., Christopher, Matthew, Allison, Robert, DeAnna and Jennifer; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Hein of South Bend. Mr. Smethers was preceded in death by his parents and by a grandson, Dennis Jr. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, from 10 a.m. at Bubb Funeral Chapel where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger.
