David E. Smeeton

David E. Smeeton, 89, of Fox Fire Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 12:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, in Regency Place of South Bend. David was born on Dec. 15, 1909, in Chicago, Ill., to Marie (Jensen) and Cecil Smeeton, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Brooks and Wulstan. David was in sales and marketing for most of his professional life. He was an avid golfer and was a former member of the Morris Park Country Club. He was currently a member of the South Bend Elks B.P.O.E. # 235.

On Nov. 27, 1971, in South Bend, David married Nora Lee Owens, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Mary Kay Welch of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Sue Ann Ashpole of Naples, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Caroline Lee Goddard of Encino, Calif.; and by five grandchildren.

Memorial services for David will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Memorial gifts in David's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 535 W. Edison, Unit #6, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
