South Bend-Joan May Slisz, 68, of East Randolph Street, died Wednesday in her home of natural causes. Survivors include her husband, Melvin Sr.; a daughter, Deborah L. King of Colorado; and a son, Melvin Jr. of Osceola. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend, where friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Joan May Slisz, 68, residing on East Randolph Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, in her home. She was born on Feb. 4, 1931, at home on Randolph Street, to the late Frank and Dollie Simcox, and passed away in same room in which she was born. She was also preceded in death by her eight brothers, Chet, George, Pete, Bob, Ralph, Frank Jr. "Junie", Walt and Bill.

 

She met Melvin Slisz at a dance at the Ramona dance Hall in the summer of 1949 and they were married six months later on Nov. 30, 1949, in South Bend. This November they would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Joan was a homemaker and was employed for seven years at the former Shoppers Fair in South Bend. Joan loved to play bingo, and go to the Blue Chip Casino. She loved her family, and they will miss her dearly. She is survived by her husband, Melvin; a daughter, Deborah Lee King of Colorado; a son, Melvin (Jill) Slisz, Jr. of Osceola, Ind.; three grandsons, Art Holderman, Dan Slisz and Randy Slisz; and by two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Chandice.

 

Services for Joan Slisz will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, in the Palmer Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Foundation.
