SOUTH BEND - Sister Marian Therese
(Judith Ellen Slattery) CSC, 73, was born in Omaha, NE to the
late Edward T. Slattery and Beatrice C. Buckley.
She was the fifth child of seven, one of whom predeceased her,
Beatrice G. Slatterey Campbell of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Sister
is survived by three sisters, Mary C. Guillott, Patricia
A. Duralde of Fullerton, CA, and Sister Rita Slattery
CSC of Notre Dame, IN; and two brothers, Edward F. Slattery
of Palm Desert, CA and William J. Slattery of Marina del Rey, CA.
Generations of nieces and nephews and her many friends will miss
her. Before entering the Sisters of the Holy Cross, she was a
student and graduated from Saint Mary's Academy of Los Angeles,
CA in 1953. She entered the Congregation that same year. Sister
received her BA from the University of Santa Clara in California
and did post-graduate work there also. Sister's ministry in the
Congregation included many years as a teacher/administrator in
elementary schools in California, Utah and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Parish ministry and community service followed these years in
Israel, Ghana, St. Mary's Convent Notre Dame, IN and San Antonio,
TX. A special assignment as co-director of Relief Operations with
Catholic Relief Services in Beirut, Lebanon in the mid-eighties
was a highlight of her years of ministry.
Reception of the body will be at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 29 in Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's Note Dame, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's Notre Dame, IN 46556 Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
