Mary Anna Slater

Mary Anna Slater, 80, of South Bend, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2006, in Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Slater retired in 1989 from Indiana Employment Services where she was employed for 15 years. She was born on January 12, 1926, in South Bend, to Rade and Mary Ann (Yablonski) Evanovich.

On June 7, 1947, as Mary Anna Evanovich, she married Fred Slater, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Ronald (Irinda) Slater of North Liberty; seven grandchildren, Jamie, Janna, Jaclyn, Jeremy, Joseph, Rusty and Cliff; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Helene Chick of South Bend; a brother, Alexander Evanovich of Niles; and a sister-in-law, Nella Evanovich of South Bend. Mary Anna was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Marie Slater; a son, James Slater; a sister, Lucille Brock; and two brothers, Peter Evanovich and Michael Evanovich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2006, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church.
