SOUTH BEND - Fred M. Slater, 84, passed away on Thursday,
July 5, 2007, in his residence. Fred was born on May 8, 1923, in
South Bend, to Peter and Ann (Vukovits) Slater. He was a
World War II Army Airborne vet and a member of V.F.W. Post 1820.
Mr. Slater retired in 1985 from Memorial Hospital where he was
employed for 25 years.
On June 7, 1947, in South Bend, he married
the former Mary Ann Evanovich, who died on June 13, 2006.
Fred was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Marie
Slater; a son, James L. Slater; a sister, Jane Stockberger;
and a brother, Frank Slater. Surviving are a son, Ronald (Irinda)
Slater of North Liberty; seven grandchildren, Jamie Schneider,
Rusty Slater, Jeremy Slater, Cliff Slater, Janna Cleek,
Jaclyn Tibbs and Joseph Slater; 10 great-grandchildren;
and two brothers, Peter (Gloria) Slater and Lawrence (Beth)
Slater, both of South Bend.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic
Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family and
friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral
Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made
to Our Lady of Hungary Church.
