SOUTH BEND - Donald L. Slater, 65,
of 4423 Brookton Drive, died at 9:05 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph Medical
Center after an illness. Mr. Slater was a route salesman for
Pepsi-Cola, retiring after 27 years of service.
He was born April 5, 1928, in South
Bend and was a lifelong area resident. On Sept. 1, 1956, in
LaPorte, he married Marilyn J. Knowlton. She survives with three
daughters, Jeannie Slater and Melody DeBeck, both of South Bend,
and Sheryl Feller of Danville, Ind.; a son, Craig of Muncie,
Ind.; six grandsons; his mother, Maybelle Slater of South Bend; a
sister, Karon Haraguchi of South Bend; and two brothers, Thomas
of Nappanee and Eugene of Houston. He was a member of First Baptist
Church, Teamsters Union No. 364, and was a Navy veteran of World
War II.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday
in Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery,
North Liberty. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to
Hospice of St. Joseph County.
