SOUTH BEND - Roger C. Slack, 79, went home to be with his
Lord at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2008, in Regency Place.
He died peacefully in his sleep after a struggle with pneumonia.
He joins his wife, Lila M. Slack, in Heaven, who left us in
December 2004. He is also reunited with his parents, Wilburn C.
and Florence M. Slack, who lived in Stillwell, IN. He leaves
behind his sons, Kenneth E. (Barbara) Slack of Granger and
Stephen J. (Denise) Slack of Fort Wayne. Also missing him are
grandsons, Jonathan R. Slack and Kyle M. Gulick;
stepchildren, Ronald King, Roy King, Peggy Miller and
Barbara Dreibelbeis; along with 14 step-grandchildren.
Lova Carter of Mishawaka, mother of Kenneth and Stephen, has also
been a great comfort and support. Roger retired from Bendix
Corporation after 30 years. He also worked for Studebaker and the
Clark Equipment Company. Born in LaPorte, IN, on February 11,
1929, he moved to South Bend in 1955 where he raised his family.
In 1982 he moved to Fulton, IN, for his retirement years. Roger
proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from
1952 to 1954.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A funeral service will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, in the funeral home. Burial will be at Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte, IN.
