Roger G. Slabaugh
July 9, 1932 - Aug. 15, 2002
Roger Gene Slabaugh, 70, passed away Thursday, Aug. 15, from a massive heart attack.
He was born in 1932 to Herman and Blanche (Fredrick) Slabaugh. Roger was a 1951 graduate of Mishawaka High School, and a member of the 1950 state championship football team.
He was awarded a football scholarship to Florida State where he played for two years. He served his country during the Korean War, and for many years served as a volunteer fireman for the Penn South Fire Department. Roger retired from Honeywell (formerly Allied Signal) in November, having over 35 years of service as an engineer.
He is survived by his mother, Blanche Slabaugh of Mishawaka, Ind.; a sister, Pat Slabaugh Miller of Elkhart, Ind.; and by a brother, Keith Slabaugh of Elkhart.
He was married to Marian Siade Slabaugh and they had two children, a son, Brad Slabaugh from Crestview Hills, Ky., and his wife, Donna Slabaugh, granddaughter, Lauren Slabaugh, and grandson, Alex Slabaugh; a daughter, Paulette Slabaugh-Ingle and her husband, Rev. Mark Ingle from Highland, Ind. Roger loved his children, his grandchildren and he loved life. Roger was also married to Sandra Dietrick Slabaugh who is deceased.
Family and friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. today, Aug. 18, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where funeral services will take place at noon Monday, Aug. 19. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
