SOUTH BEND - Leonard F. Skwarcan, 77, passed away on
Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at 6:17 p.m. in Sanctuary at St.
Pauls. Leonard was born on February 27, 1931, in South Bend to
the late Ignatius and Valeria (Pinkowski) Skwarcan. He was
also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur "Buddy"
and Daniel. On August 24, 1957 he married Phyllis (Kandzierski)
in South Bend, she survives along with their son, Todd (Areta)
Skwarcan of South Bend; three grandchildren, Alina, Gabrielle and
Ike, all of South Bend; and by his brother, Chester
"Chet" Skwarcan of Elkhart. Leonard retired in 2001
after 34 years as a Deputy Assessor for St. Joseph County. He was
a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, D.A.V., and P.N.A. Nest
83. He was a drummer with The Frankie Kit Band, and a member of
the Musicians union. Lenny served on the Board of Directors for
over 20 years of St. Joseph Funeral Home and St. Joseph Cemetery
Association. He also sang in the choir of St. Mary of the
Assumption Catholic Church for over 40 years.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday November 2, 2008 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 3, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Parish, 56405 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619.
