Robert R. Skodinski
Jan. 29, 1921 - April 5, 2001
Robert Richard "Bob" Skodinski, 80, of South Bend, Indiana, left this earthly home at 4:35 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2001, at St. Joseph Care Center.
He was born January 29, 1921, in South Bend, Indiana, son of Charles and Christina Skodinski of South Bend.
In June 1947, Bob married Gertrude Miller, who passed away in 1971. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Howard and Art Skodinski; and four sisters, Adele Lee, Edith Grabner, Hilda Kemper and Laura Senger.
On April 25, 1976, Bob married Helen Lanning, who survives at home in South Bend. He is also survived by son, Philip Ryan Skodinski, and his wife, Pat of South Bend; two granddaughters, Sara and Sally Skodinski, who attend Calvin College; and son, Chris Alan Skodinski, and his fiancée, Suzi of Mishawaka. Also three stepsons, Robert (Sandy) Phillips of New York, Bud (Laurel) Phillips of California and Rick (Nova) of Alaska.
Bob was known for his sense of humor and practical jokes. He enjoyed tinkering in his "pad" and had a TV repair business. He cherished his time with his beloved granddaughters, Sara and Sally.
Bob retired from Bendix Corporation in 1982 as Maintenance Supervisor. He honorably served in World War II as a staff sergeant in the Pacific. He was also a member of Lydick Lions Club, a lifetime member of Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club, American Legion Post #284, and Bethany Lutheran Church.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Bethany Lutheran Church. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church. Burial will take place in Riverview Cemetery.
