Alice Emily Sites

Alice Emily Sites, 81, of Sturgis, Mich.,
died Saturday, Oct. 18, in her home.
She was born March 4,, 1922 in Crown Point,
Ind., a daughter of Walter C. and Ethel L. (Peck) Jacobs. Alice
came to the Sturgis area from Goshen, Ind., when she was 14 years
old, taken in by a family where she worked for her keep. She had
been employed by the Darling Company, Trans-a-Gram and Freeman
Manfacturing Company. Alice enjoyed cooking and serving grand
parties in her earlier years. She later became a maid an had been
employed by 47 different families over the years. To the children
of these families, their fondest memories were her cookies.
Everyone she has touched will remember her wanting to help and
comfort them in some way. The "Grand Caretaker", Alice
was a member of the First Baptist Church, loved her garden,
traveling, theatrical plays and art drawings. Her crown of joy
was watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren
grow.
She is survived by four daughters, Yvonne
West of Sturgis, Georgia Kelly of LaGrange, Ind., Alice Butz
(Spencer George) of Centreville, Mich, and Marsha Goldstein of
Sturgis; a son Gale Elsworth Sites Jr. of Sturgis; and 10
grandchildren, Debra Richey (Leon) of LaGrange, Denise Strauss
(William) of Scotsdale, Ariz. Larry Holst ( Ann Marie) of South
Whitley, Ind., James Holst (Karen) of LaGrange, Diane Rice
(Robert) of Houston, Texas, Dannette Korhage (Stuart) of St.
Augustine, Fla. Michael Butz (Julie) of Mendon, Michelle Hill
(Chris) of Constantine, Randy Reed (Kris) of LaJolla, Calif, and
Maxwell Vincent Sites of Sturgis, 13 great-grandchildren; a
sister, Betty (Fry) Laughlin of Sturgis; and by two brothers,
Morris Jacobs of Mishawaka, Ind, and Francis Jacobs of South
Bend, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her husband
Gale; infant sin Lesley James West, and by a sister, Margart.
Friends and relatives may call in the
Rosenbery-Schipper Funeral Home Ltd. of Sturgis after 6 p.m.
Monday, where the family will recieve friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Religious serviced
will be held in the First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday,
with Pastor James Bender officiating. Interment will follow at
Oak Lawn Cemetery.
The family suggest memorials be made to the
