SOUTH BEND - Ray B. Siporski, 92,
passed away on Friday, September 19, 2008, in his residence. Ray
was born on October 3, 1915, in South Bend, to the late Felix and
Anna (Bzofka) Szczypiorski. On February 23, 1938, he married
Bernice H. (Ciesielski). They had 62 great years before
she preceded him in death on March 23, 2000. He was also preceded
in death by his brother, Edward Brooks, and by his two
sisters, Mildred Dhoore and Adeline Colip. He is
survived by his daughter, Candyce Discavage of South Bend;
two granddaughters, Raquel (James) Russell of North
Liberty, IN, and Elea (Jason) Hoffsetz of Noblesville, IN;
and by his four great-grandchildren, Sean and Sara Russell, Emma
and Katherine Hoffsetz. He began to work as an apprentice at
Torrington in 1939. In 1949 he purchased a farm. He farmed and
worked at Torrington until his retirement from Torrington in 1975
as an assistant plant superintendent. He retired from farming in
1990. Ray was a very active member of Lydick United Methodist
Church. He served as head usher, member of the Newcomer Committee
and on the Pastor Parish Committee. Ray also spent four years in
Discipleship Bible Study at the church. He was also a member of
the Lydick Lions Club and Moose Lodge #58. He was a charter
member of Chapter #87 Holiday Ramblers beginning in 1969 and was
a member of Family Motor Coach Association.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 22, 2008, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend. A funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lydick United Methodist Church Building Fund, 26510 Edison Road, South Bend, IN 46628.
