Frank E. Sindlinger

Frank E. Sindlinger, Jr., 90, of South Bend, Ind., died at 6:55 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, in Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Sindlinger was born on April 6, 1909, in South Bend, to Frank E. and Bertha (Klingel) Sindlinger, and was a lifetime area resident.

On July 8, 1944, in Austin, Texas, he married Maureen Ingleman, who survives. He is also survived by two nieces, Dorothea Vandagriff and Christine Ingleman Combs, both of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister-in-law, Dorothea Ingleman of Fort Worth; several great-nieces and nephews, including James Binnion of San Francisco, Calif., Gene Binnion of Fort Worth and Michael Binnion of California, Leslie and David Richards; and by numerous cousins.

Mr. Sindlinger owned and operated the well-known Sindlinger's Meat Market at 432-434 Lincoln Way West in South Bend for many years, retiring in 1972. Mr. Sindlinger was a 50-year member of Robert Blum Lodge of the International Order of Oddfellows, and a longtime member of the First Christian Church of South Bend where he was a choir member for 60 years and served as a deacon. He graduated from South Bend High School and South Bend Business College, and attended the University of Notre Dame.

He was a musician with many bands and orchestras and was a charter member of the South Bend Symphony where he played the French horn. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with Company B of the 661st Tank Destroyer Battalion. Frank and Maureen also traveled extensively.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the First Christian Church of South Bend, 1101 E. Jefferson Blvd., with Dr. William J. Wassner officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday in the church.
