Thomas Simonton

Thomas Simonton, 83 years old, veteran of the Civil War, was found dead Sunday at 1 p.m. at his home, 1126 South Main street, where he lived alone.  The body was discovered by Charles Brodbeck, 1137 South Main street, who was in the habit of calling each day to look after the comfort of the aged man.  Preparations for his burial were made by Mr. Simonton before his death, he having bought a lot and had placed a tomb stone and marker with space left in the inscription for the date of death.

The body of Mr. Simonton was found lying on the floor in the kitchen of his home.  It is thought that death occurred Friday night and was caused by heart trouble.  The deceased was born in 1835 and as a boy made his home on the Turkey Creek road in Union township.  He ws a member of Company E. 48th Indiana infantry, was wounded in the battle of Luka, and was discharged in 1863 because of disability.  He was a Sergeant at the time of his discharge.

Relatives supposed to be living in Montpelier, Ind. Have been notified of Mr. Simonton’s death, and funeral arrangements will be made later.
