Mr. Charles R. Shuppert, 83, of Roosevelt Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away in his residence at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8. Mr. Shuppert was born on Sept. 24, 1916 in South Bend and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area.

On Dec. 28, 1944 in South Bend he married Doris E. Konzen, who survives with two daughters and two sons,Jackie M. Shuppert of South Bend and Cheryl J. (David) McColley of South Bend; James H. (Brooksie) Shuppert of Cincinnati, Ohio and Jon K. Shuppert of South Bend. Mr. Shuppert is also survived by four loving grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and by a sister, L. Genevieve Bertsche of Elkhart. Mr. Shuppert was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy A. Shuppert on Oct. 8, 1979; two brothers, Vernon R. Shuppert and J. William Shuppert; and by a sister, Vera H. Benson.

Charles retired in 1980 from the Building Trades after many years of service. He was a member of the Roofers Local Union #23. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of VFW Post 1954 in North Liberty, American Legion Post #365 in North Liberty and a member of the Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church.

Visitation hours will be from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11 in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Ind. 23. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12 in the funeral home with Rev. Charles Ternet officiating, with burial to follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to the Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, 24535 Roosevelt Road, South Bend, IN 46614. The Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend heartfelt sympathy to the Shuppert family.
