Mrs. Jennifer Shorter, affectionately
known as "Penny," 50, dear loved one, who resided on
Bissell Street, South Bend, Ind., was taken into eternal rest on
Wednesday, March 19, in Memorial Hospital.
Jennifer, daughter of Jerome and Dorothy (Blanton)
Perkins, was born in South Bend on Aug. 31, 1952. On Aug.
21, 2001, Jennifer's mother, Dorothy Perkins, preceded her in
death. As a lifelong area resident, Jennifer was educated in the
South Bend Community School Corporation, graduating from John
Adams High School. After attending college, Jennifer was employed
as a bookkeeper by the South Bend Housing Allowance for 10 years;
as a paraprofessional for the South Bend School Corporation with
four years of service; and as a receptionist for Big Brother/Big
Sisters where she also served as a big sister. At the time of her
death, she was a receptionist for Madison Center and was employed
by L.A.S. Day Care.
Jennifer and Kenneth Shorter were united in
marriage on Aug. 31, 1992, in South Bend. Her passing will be
mourned by her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Lashaunte Todd;
a son, Matthew Allen Schrock; her father, Jerome Perkins;
a sister, Patricia (Paul) Adams; along with special
nieces, Jennifer Adams and Jessica (Kenny) Adams; and a
special nephew, Matthew (Chiquita) Adams, all of South Bend; two
sisters-in-law, Tonya A. Bass of Elkhart, Ind., and Kathy
(Cleo) Evans of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers-in-law, Sam Jones
of South Bend and Carlton Shorter of Chicago; along with a host
of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shorter will be
held at noon Saturday, March 22, in First A.M.E. Church, where
she was a member. Reverend Timothy Rouse will officiate.
Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call in
the church one hour prior to the services. Arrangements have been
entrusted to Alford's Mortuary.
