Byrd "Vern" Shipley was the son of Walter and Eugenia (Harwood) Shipley, who have preceded him in death. He served in the Armed Forces in World War II. He was employed by Studebaker Corp. and retired in 1977 from AM General, where he served in quality control.
Vern married Anna Wincek Bali on
Vern is survived by two sons, George and his wife, Jane Bali, and Jack and his wife, Dolores Shipley, all of South Bend; and his two daughters, Barb and her husband, Joseph Molnar of Granger and Kathy and her husband Dennis Kurek of South Bend; a brother, Harold Shipley of Gilmer, Texas, also survives him. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Beth (George) Fetterman, Amy (Ken) Hurt, Christopher (Maggie) Bali, Jan (Denny) Hooten, Jack (Nadja) Shipley, Robert (Anita) Shipley, Cindy (Jeff) Arnett, Cindy Tafelski, Lisa (Kevin) Coffman, Michael Tafelski, Jennifer (Ken) Hixenbaugh, Lori Bowers, Teresa Pyburn and Scott Bowers. Dad is also survived by 27 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
