Owen
Shingledecker, 82, of Mishawaka, passed away in his home
April 13 after a brief illness.
Owen was born August 31, 1923, in Mishawaka to Owen D. and Mildred A. Shingledecker. They preceded him in death.
On July 22, 1950, he married Margaret A. Frieienstein. After 49 years together, she preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Alicia (Kevin) MacIsaac, Waynetown, Ind., Kathy (Jeff) Hull of South Bend, Patty (Dave) Bolhuis of Atlanta, Ga., Nancy (Rick) Evans of Louisville, Ky., and Margaret (Scott) Kron of Granger; and his sons, David (Eileen) Shingledecker and Gary (Tammy) Shingledecker, both of Mishawaka; 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Owen is also survived by his sisters, Frances (Jack) Avery of Osceola, Annabelle (Lyle) Yaw of Granger; and his brothers, Roger (Rita) Shingledecker of Tacoma, WA, and Loren Shingledecker of Mishawka.
Owen retired from the Mishawaka Utilities Water Department after 19 years of service in 1988. He was a veteran of the United states Army Air Force, serving his county proudly during World War II. He was very proud of his military service. Following in his footsteps were his son Gary and grandson who also serve the U.S. Air Force and another grandson who serves in the US Navy. Owen never missed an opportunity to fly the flag with honor and was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 161 and the Veterans of Foreign War Post 360. The family would like to acknowledge the care and comfort Shanower Group Home provided Owen, not only in his final days but for the years Owen spent with them.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18 in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.
