SOUTH BEND - Dmitry Sheyko, 81, of South Bend, passed away
Saturday evening, February 16, 2008, in Saint Joseph Regional
Medical Center, South Bend. Dmitry was born in Russia on November
10, 1926, a son of the late Kuzma and Tatiyna Sheyko. He left
Russia at the age of 15 and came to the United States in the
early 1950s, settling in Chicago.
On September 1, 1957, Dmitry married
Alexandria Chesnokova, and they lived in Chicago until
moving to South Bend in 1970. Dmitry retired from Parrish Machine
Company, a place he truly loved working. He enjoyed vegetable
gardening, playing cards and was a handyman around the house.
Dmitry was a practical person and a mathematician at heart. His
family was the center of his life. Dmitry's surviving family
includes his wife of 50 years, Alexandria of South Bend; four
children, Michael (Judy) Sheyko of Mishawaka, Tania (Steven) O'Dell
of Osceola, Alexander Sheyko of North Liberty, Iowa, and Peter
(Mary Jane) Sheyko of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 13 grandchildren,
Johnathon, Benjamin, Mason, Kelsie, Jordan, Tessa, Adam, Natasha,
Matthew, Jacob, Katherine, Kristin and Julia; and two
great-grandchildren, Emersynn and Bronson. Dmitry was preceded in
death by several sisters and a brother.
Friends may spend time with Dmitry's family
today (Tuesday) from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Thallemer, Goethals &
Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka. Services
will be held Wednesday at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel,
with Father Mile Subotic officiating. Burial will follow at
Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
