Helen Alfreda Sherrill

SOUTH BEND - Helen Alfreda Sherrill, 85, devoted Christian, loving wife, mom, sister, grandma, great-grandma and great-great grandma was chosen by God, her heavenly Father, to live with Him in Heaven on Saturday, November 17, 2007. Helen was born on July 13, 1922, in Nebraska to Earl and Laura (Johnson) Schmuck.

 

She married Eugene A. Sherrill in 1942, in South Bend and lived there most of her life. As a woman of prayer and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Mishawaka, she served the Lord as a High School Youth Sponsor, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher, AWANA Sparks Leader, and was active in Women's Ministries and the Sew and Reap and Tabitha Ladies Missionary Groups besides opening her home for a ladies' Bible study.

 

Surviving family members left to cherish her memory are her children, Virginia (Bernard) Berg of Wayland, MI., Eugene (Karen) Sherrill of Mishawaka, Patricia Ann (Paul) Holderman of Bremen, Richard (Kathi) Sherrill of Warren MI., and Patricia Jean Emigh; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Wilma (Wilbert) Swartz of Lincoln NE.

 

God blessed us with the best mom, sister, grandma and friend that anyone could ever have. She took pride in taking care of her family, home, church, friends and anyone in need. We are thankful to have had her as a wonderful example in our lives. Helen touched so many lives and will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Eugene, Leland and Bud; a son, Ronald Sherrill; a foster daughter, Betty and a grandson, Adam Sherrill. Helen's family would like to give special thanks to and express appreciation to all of the nurses and caregivers who helped take care of her at the Miller's Merry Manor in Plymouth.

 

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 20,2007, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21 with one hour visitation prior at the First Baptist Church 724 N. Main St. Mishawaka, IN., with Rev. David Miller and Rev. Richard McCartney officiating. Burial will is to follow the service at Chapel Memorial Gardens, in Osceola, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Mishawaka, IN
