GRANGER - Leona I. Shayler, 84, of Granger, formerly of
Mishawaka, passed away on Tuesday, November 1st, in her
residence. Leona was born in Winona, Minnesota, on December 5,
1926, to the late Carl and Mary (Dingfelder) Tate. As Leona Irene
Tate, she married Harold J. Shayler on November 24, 1945. He
preceded her in death on April 17, 1998. She was employed with
the Wheelabrator Corp. for 23 1/2 years, retiring in 1987. Leona
was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. She belonged to the
Sewing Ladies at St. Peter and the Julianna Club of Wheelabrator.
Leona is survived by her two children, Sharyn (Phillip)
Schemahorn of Mishawaka and Randy Shayler of Wellsville, New
York. She was a grandmother of three, Brian (Nanci) Schemahorn of
Niles, Michigan, Randy Michael (Elizabeth) Shayler II of
Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Nicholas Harold Shayler of
Syracuse, New York. Leona is also survived by a
great-granddaughter, Abigail Schemahorn of Niles, Michigan.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, November 4th, from 4
until 7 pm in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St.,
Mishawaka, and on Saturday one hour prior to the service in the
church. A service celebrating Leona's life will be held on
Saturday, November 5th, at 10 am in St. Peter Lutheran Church,
437 E. Dragoon Trail, Mishawaka, with Pastor Bryan Borger
officiating. Burial is to follow at Fairview Cemetery of
Mishawaka. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial
contributions be made in Leona's name to either St. Peter
Lutheran Church or to Hospice Camp Evergreen. Published in South
