Gladys R. Huffman Seyfred, 80, formerly of 26th Street, South Bend, IN, died at 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, at Ironwood Health & Rehab Center, South Bend. She was born on June 13, 1920, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, to the late Floyd and Lillian (Juhnke) Ackerson, and was a lifelong area resident.

On July 30, 1940, she married Ralph "Jim" Huffman, who preceded in death July 28, 1966. In 1967 she married Everett Seyfred, who died in 1983. Also preceding in death were two stepsons, Jack Huffman in 1985 and Dan D. Seyfred in 1986; three sisters, Lila Bates, Doris Jump and Darlene Ross Borntrager; and two brothers, Leland Ackerson and Ronald Ross. Gladys is survived by a stepdaughter, Lois Huffman-Kollar of South Bend; two daughters, Sharon Huffman-Stump of South Bend and Sandra Huffman-Sherry of Morgan Hill, CA; a son, James Huffman of Hopkinsville, KY; a daughter-in-law, Betty Huffman of Mishawaka; sixteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, June Klick of Janesville, Wisconsin; and a brother, Kenneth Ross of San Jose, CA.

Gladys was a member of Albright United Methodist Church, an active member of American Legion Post #303, River Park, and was involved in the PTA and Blue Birds at Nuner School.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, Feb. 2, at Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Dennis Ingle Sr., pastor of Albright United Methodist Church, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 PM today at Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend.
