Joseph Phillip Sergio, 73, passed away of pancreatic cancer at 8:53 p.m. Tuesday evening, April 25, in his home.
Joseph was born in South Bend on January 5, 1933, the son of Margaret (Zappia) and Paul Sergio. He graduated from Central High School, attended the University of Notre Dame, and graduated from Ferris State Pharmacy School. He was a local pharmacist in this area for many years.
On November 11, 1961, he married the former Jeanne Marie Weiss in South Bend, who survives, along with two daughters, Julianne Siavelis and Jan Marie Weber; four sons, John, James, Jeffery and Joseph. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren, whom he dearly loved, Stephanie, AIexandra, Katherine, Steven, Justin, Lindsey, Zachery, Maggie, Tommy, Brian, Jacob, Hunter and Sydney. He also leaves four sisters, Anne Kotoske, Kathy Ramenda, Mary Muhlherr and Josie Muhlherr; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, extended family members and good friends. His parents and a brother, Anthony, preceded him in death.
A memorial Mass in Joseph's honor will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 28, in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. There will be no visitation.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the VA Hospital Oncology Unit, 2121 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46805; or to the American Cancer Society, 601 W. Edison, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
